Honey, do buy me Honeydew for Mother’s Day!

Honey, do buy me Honeydew for Mother’s Day!
Yes, as bad as that pun is, it was totally intended! If you’re pregnant this Mother’s Day your “honey do” list should have a line item that reads: “Order Honeydew A Leg Up foot lotion for wife in time for Mother’s Day.”

Honeydew is a line of skin care products created specifically for expecting moms. The company steers clear of parabens, petrolatum, sulfates, synthetic colors, dyes and perfumes, doesn’t test on animals and uses ingredients such as natural botanicals. A Leg Up is a lightweight lotion that cools and detoxifies tired and swollen pregnancy feet. I don’t know about you, but when I’m pregnant my last trimester heralds the onset of swollen, achy feet on a daily basis. I wish A Leg Up had existed 12 years ago!

Honeydew’s A Leg Up is formulated with cucumber, aloe and mint. The lightweight lotion is absorbed quickly and the cooling sensation helps relieve your tired feet. All-natural plant extracts like cucumber, aloe leaf, macademia seed oil and horsetail help reduce swelling, encourage fluid drainage and stimulate circulation. I could use this on my non-pregnancy feet during the hot summer months - I get slightly uncomfortable, swollen ankles due to the heat and an especially salty meal the night before!

Elevating your feet helps but sometimes you need to throw in a little something to really get that circulation moving and the swelling down. You - or your
honey - can order A Leg Up for $22 from Honeydew’s site (currently out of stock) or from Nordstrom.com. - Emily H.

Itsy Bitsy Spirals: For the little girl with a little curl

Itsy Bitsy Spirals: For the little girl with a little curl
My babies are always born nearly bald and when they finally get some hair, what little curls they have are gone with the first haircut. I do wish one of my girls had a head full of Shirley Temple curls. (We’ll be relying on store-bought curlers instead.)

If you and your little one are lucky enough to fight the battle of the curls and find those sweet little spirals a bit on the dry, frizzy side you might want to try Itsy Bitsy Spirals from Curls. This baby curl moisturizer is formulated with certified organic ingredients, opthamologist tested and pediatrician recommended. You apply Itsy Bitsy Spirals to wet or dry hair and it will soften, hydrate and detangle even the curliest locks.

Itsy Bitsy Spirals contains certified organic aloe leaf juice (a vitamin-rich moisturizer), certified organic jojoba oil (a natural oil similar to that produced by the sebaceous glans in the scalp) and bean tree (a plant-derived emollient that gives the hair sheen and silkiness). These ingredients combined with other organic extracts are what help the moisturizer rehydrate dry, frizzy curly hair without leaving it greasy or sticky.

Just like other products from the Curls line, Itsy Bitsy Spirals is perfect for multi ethnic children. You can purchase a bottle of Itsy Bitsy Spirals baby curl moisturizer for $10 from the Curls website. - Emily H.

One soap to clean them all

One soap to clean them all
Products that are good for several things at once save time, space and effort. One favorite item of mine is Weleda Calendula soap. It’s a regular bar of soap, but in our house it has served three important purposes.

When I was pregnant, and for the first two months post-partum, I developed several horrible full body rashes. Itchy, miserable… I shudder to even recall the torture. This soap was suggested to me by an herbalist at a local natural body product shop, and I have to say it definitely was soothing. It didn’t cure the rashes (that unfortunately required prednisone) but it did make me feel better.

Once the baby was here, I noticed the soap was labeled for use with babies. Sure enough, it is great on my son’s skin, and works really well for a shampoo as well. As a bonus, it smells great.

So there you have it - balm for rashy moms, soap for newborn, and nice-smelling shampoo for baby’s hair. All for a reasonable price considering it is a very long-lasting bar! - Leigh G.

A balm for what ails baby

A balm for what ails baby
Though I have long been a Eucerin fan when it comes to soothing my baby’s dry, sensitive skin, I am learning that may not be the best option for her. Looking for something more organic and natural, I found Sweet Beauty Baby Balm. After reading its list of ingredients I’m anxious to try it!

Sweet Beauty Baby Balm soothes your baby’s dry, irritated skin with organic cocoa butter, a variety of natural oils and butters, and gentle extracts. This balm helps moisturize the skin and prevent future dryness and irritation. Plus it penetrates quickly into the skin, which is perfect for little ones who won’t hold still!

The list of ingredients is impressive--and yummy. Along with chamomile, zinc oxide and Vitamin E T-50, you’ll find cocoa butter, sweet cherry oil and extracts of marshmallow and raspberry. You can use Sweet Beauty Baby Balm on everything from parched lips to irritated bottoms - and that goes for adults too! You can purchase a jar of Sweet Beauty Baby Balm for $17 from SweetBeautySpa.com. - Emily H.

Tiny Tillia’s delightful bath and body products for baby (and mom)

Tiny Tillia’s delightful bath and body products for baby (and mom)
Just because bath and body products are all natural doesn’t mean they have to be boring. Take Tiny Tillia for example. Launched in 2006 by London-born designer Tiffany Lerman, creator of the successful Chester collection of fashion prints found on products ranging from handbags to scrapbooking, Tiny Tillia offers a range of children’s all-natural bath and body products that feature a collection of delightful characters - based on Tiffany’s family, no less - and whimsical packaging.

From bath mitts and “boo boo bandages” to diaper crème and foaming body wash, all Tiny Tillia products are people, earth, animal and environment safe and paraben free. I am intrigued by the Magic Cream, which helps relieve the pain of minor bumps with a homeopathic and hypoallergenic topical salve containing shea butter, tea tree oil and Vitamin E. And their Tea Trea Lime hand sanitizer has essence of lime in an alcohol-free formula and contains aloe, witch hazel and citrus essential oils. Can’t say the same for my current hand sanitizer; plus, mine doesn’t have the cutest picture of Austin Elephant on the front! Though the line is designed for children, don't hesitate to use it on yourself. It won't lose any of its whimsy or wonderful results simply because you're thirty-something.

The one product in the line we'd caution against is the bubble bath, which contains PEGs, which many reputable environmental health organizations are currently suggesting parents avoid.

Tiny Tillia is available at stores like Fred Segal, The Right Start, Lisa Kline Kids, Shop Intuition, The Wynn Las Vegas and The Montage Resort & Spa or online at Amazon.com. Prices range from $6 to $18. - Emily H.
