Sign with baby using ASL

Sign with baby using ASL
For parents looking to get closer to their baby, sign language is a great way to bond and foster communication. Baby Signing: How to Talk with Your Baby in American Sign Language is an amazing resource.

This book by Andrea Fixell and Ted Stafford is in a format for parents looking for a quick and easy start to signing. For each of the signs introduced, there is a full page photograph of a child doing the sign. On the opposite page, there is a step-by-step description of how to make the sign, ideas on when to introduce and use the sign, and oftentimes suggestions for more advanced signs that are related.

I really love the design of the book, too. It is set up in a stand-up format that makes it easy for hands-free teaching, and for setting on a shelf to remind parents of the sign they are working on. When I used this book with my boys, we learned enough basic signs to get through our day, including more, all done, milk, water, eat, and sleep. I really loved that for the essential parts of their day, my children could communicate with me what they needed.

If you are looking for an in-depth way to teach your child extensive sign language, this book is not for you. But if you are looking for a great introduction to baby sign language and a way to develop communication skills together to get closer with your baby, Baby Signing is a fantastic resource. - Sara I.
