Make your own nursing pillow

Before I had my daughter, I was told I HAD to have a Boppy pillow if I was breastfeeding. We ended up with one as a gift, and while it was helpful, I didn't find it a necessity. That may have been because I have a really long torso, and the pillow wasn't tall enough for my daughter to feed. If I was sitting in a chair that had armrests, or sitting in bed with my knees up, it worked great. But if I had realized that I could make my own, I probably would have done so.

If you are like me, and the Boppy didn't fit you comfortably, try making your own from this pattern from Jan Andrea. She also mentions the idea of adding a strap and a cover to your own personalized nursing pillow. - Trisha

I wish I could sew!! This looks great. I’m a fan of the boppy but I’d love soemthing more comfortable

Becka- this would be a really easy project to start out sewing. There’s really nothing complicated about it. And if you mess up, oh well. I can’t tell you how many things I have messed up on! I just saw a bopppy-like pillow form online from Joann Fabrics for just 9.99. It would be pretty simple to make a cover for one, or have a crafty friend make one. I plan on covering the awful pattern that came on our garage sale boppy.

Jessica- Yes, I’ve seen those too. I thought this would be great for those who didn’t fit the pre-made pillow form. It would be really easy to customize it completely to your shape. I have also seen patterns from Jo-Anne’s for a cover to fit those pillows, or you could try to make your own!
