We don't usually publish alerts to specific recalls - you can subscribe to the CPSC's child-product RSS feed or follow their kid-related recalls on Twitter for that - but we have learned that one of the items we listed in the Polliwogged Gift Guide has been recalled. Imagiplay, which has a very solid track record, has recalled its bead maze toys because the stand-up parts can detach from the bases and reveal a screw, which poses a laceration hazard when exposed. You can read the recall notice here. - Jeremiah
We have tested their rattles, which are very nice, and a dinosaur puzzle/toy set, which was chunky but also fun and good quality. Imagiplay’s toys are made in China but were selected directly by the owner of the company through visits and follow-up checks - the “factories” involved are more like family operations. This is in contrast to many companys with “Made in China” products, that have factories selected via a price-war bidding process and using a broker who does the checks, if any.
I’ve waited two months for Imagiplay to respond to my email requesting an RMA (I followed their instructions here), but I have received nothing.
They have lost a customer for good. I’m not at all pleased with their quality… our Pushalong Fox broke, the beadmaze was recalled (and had inconsistent packaging), and they don’t follow up on recalls. We have a third toy that I bought but haven’t given my son yet, I’m debating whether I should even bother.
I’m 1 for 3 on Imagiplay toys now. I’m not pleased with their quality. I had actually never given our Apple Tree Bead Maze to my son because the package says “ages 3+” while online it says “1+”.
We had an animal push toy that broke (into rather small, splintered pieces) almost as soon as we got it.
