You’re going to flip your cap!

You’re going to flip your cap!
Ever had to dig through a plastic Ziploc bag or drawer full of baby bottle caps looking for the match to the baby bottle in hand? And of course you’re already running late so caps are flying everywhere as you desperately hunt for the right one.

If this scenario rings as true for you as it does me, you’re going to love the new Baby Safe Cap, a flip cap designed specifically for baby bottles. This BPA-free flip cap fits all standard size bottles and is spill proof. Besides keeping the right cap right there, the Baby Safe Cap helps keep germs, dust and dirt off the nipple. Flip the cap (it even snaps back so it’s out of the way), feed your baby and then flip it closed. We've only seen a prototype to date, which had some problems with their closure; we'll report on the design once they've sent us a finished version.

But again, we love the idea - especially for day care settings, where childcare providers can simply flip the cap shut as soon as your baby is done, preventing other little ones from “sharing” your baby’s bottle while avoiding the risk of lost caps and germ exposure. Sharing is a good thing but not when applied to pacifiers, bottles and sippy cups!

The Baby Safe Cap comes in six colors; you can purchase a three-pack for $14 from the Baby Safe Cap online store. - Emily H.

Or you can just keep the bottle top that came with the bottle handy?  I just don’t see the point.  Seems like another gadget that would get lost in the shuffle.  My daughter has been in daycare since 13 weeks and they’ve managed to get around bottle sharing buy using the original tops.

This must be your FIRST child. And you HOPE the day care is managing to do that, until she comes home with thrash or a cold or the flu or some other germ sharing illness. I wish these were around when I had small ones. It won’t get lost in the shuffle, you can’t put the bottle together without both pieces which are ALWAYS together and very visible.  TRY IT, and let me know.

Yes, this IS my first child.  I visited the website for this product and it shows mostly toddlers toting and walking around with their bottles which are (sigh..) mostly filled with juice or water.  My daughter uses a bottle only for milk and she gets it seated at her highchair after meals.  I was under the impression that frequent sipping from bottles (since the liquids pool in their mouths) could cause tooth decay, etc.

At her daycare (which I’ll admit I pay over $350 a week for) center they have rooms for the kids split up by age.  So no, no other kids would have had the opportunity to share a bottle with her/take a bottle from her, as the teachers are either holding and feeding them or letting them sit in a bouncy seat while holding it themselves.  By time she was in the toddler room at age 1, she gets only sippy cups during the day.

SO...I can see this being helpful in settings where more than one age group are combined.  But for us (as I perhaps should have mentioned in the above post to clarify for Latrice), this would not be helpful and would add to the cost of already expensive bottles.

Also, we use Born Free and this looks as if will not fit wide-neck bottles.  (Disclaimer for Latrice...I did not research that).

To each his own. God bless.

I agree with Caroline.  Just seems like another gadgety thing to buy.  I would not want my kids bringing their bottle around with them everywhere.  I am a mom of 3 under 5 and would have never had use for this.  Only thing that should be in bottles should be formula, milk or breastmilk.  All of these are perishable and should be discarded after a feeding is over.

And if previous poster had a concern that bottles were being “shared” at daycare, the center could be reported to DPH.  Can you imagine your child sipping another child’s breastmilk??!!
